Next week we have David Silver from “Out of Zion Ministries” in Golden Valley Church, on Tuesday 14th February.
David has been a regular visiting speaker in Gloucester for a number of years, and we are pleased to host him here on this occasion.
He will be speaking on World Events in the Light of Bible Prophecy. The meeting commences at 7:30pm.
Please guys, pray for Israel and for Benjamin Netanyahu! There’s something very urgent in the Spirit right now. If the church is going to partner with God in HIS purposes, then she MUST stand guard over the nation He has chosen and loved.
Netanyahu’s speech to US Congress yesterday was strategic and historic. Right now the nations are being given choices to make with regard to God’s people Israel which will affect both their long-term and short-term future. Prayer right now is essential.
“On your walls, Jerusalem, I have placed sentries; They must never be silent day or night. They must remind the LORD of his promises And never let him forget them. They must give him no rest until he restores Jerusalem And makes it a city the whole world praises”. Isaiah 62:6,7 GNB
It is 100 days from the 70th anniversary of the ending of the holocaust in the liberation of Auschwitz (27th January 2015) until the General Election in Britain on 7th May 2015. We believe this hundred days is vital for prayer, as the choice made by the British people this time round will significantly shape the nation’s destiny.
7/8th May also represents the 70th anniversary of V.E. Day – the triumph of the Allied forces and the end of the second world war in Europe.
Biblically 70 is a significant number, and stands for the completion or fulness of a period of time. I believe that this 100 days is essential for prayer and intercession for this nation. During the seventy year period since the liberation of Auschwitz there has generally been a sympathetic understanding of the horrors suffered by the Jewish people, which has spurred on the the foundation of the State of Israel and retained a basic acknowledgement of Israel’s right to exist peacefully within its borders.
Towards the end of that 70 year period, public opinion in many parts of the world has seen a slide into a more anti-Israel stance, and waves of antisemitism have hit the news headlines. There are some voices in Europe that would have us move the horrors of Nazism towards the Jews into the past, but without a constant awareness of history we are destined to repeat history’s mistakes. The famous quote of the poet and philosopher, George Santayana, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it” remains an ever-present and sobering truth. We are coming out of a ’70’, where the significance of the treatment of the Jewish people has shaped history. What will the next 70 years produce? We are about to come to the close of a ’70’, where this nation has lived in the fruit of victory in WW2. What will be the fruit of the next 70 years?
The question before our nation as we move towards the next election of a Government is, “What stance will that Government take towards Israel and its people?”. God’s Covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, remains true; those who bless Israel will be blessed. This question may not form the significant percentages in the opinion polls on what are the key issues for Government, but it forms the top of the list for God’s opinion poll.
We believe that we have this hundred day season to pray and seek God for this nation’s future. That future is unbreakably tied to the next Government’s position towards Israel and whether it stands to bless or curse the Jewish people. Church, let’s pray for our Government to be.
International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church special service
This Sunday is “International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church.” Golden Valley Church will be participating with a special service focusing on the nations where Christianity is being attacked and threatened.
Prayer items and DVD’s focusing in on two nations – Iran and Nigeria – will form the centre of our presentation.
In the past three years there has been a significant increase in the level of persecution directed at house churches in Iran, though there is an enormous spiritual hunger growing at the grass roots of the nation.
In northern Nigeria churches are being attacked, burned and bombed, and pastors and family members beaten and murdered. They ask for our support in prayer.
Our main resources used on this occasion are from “Release International“, “Open Doors“, and “Aid to the Church in Need“.
We are also grateful for Prince Charles’ recent speech on the persecution of Christians following Aid to the Church in Need’s, ‘Religious Freedom Report 2014’, (see below for link). In it he emphasises tolerance, respect, and humility. We plan to show this short video in our service.
The Bible is clear, “Remember those who are in prison, as though you were in prison with them. Remember those who are suffering, as though you were suffering as they are.” (Heb. 3:13 GNB)
What a pleasure it was to host Pastors Claude and Michele Ezagouri from Tiberias in Galilee. Their church, Morning Star Fellowship, is an important centre of prayer and worship in Galilee, reaching out to Jews and non-Jews with a variety of projects.
Pastor Claude reminded the church of the strategic importance of Israel in terms of God’s plans and purposes for the earth. Often there is much misunderstanding amongst Christians regarding His unchanging love for the Jewish people, with ‘replacement theology’ being preached.
Claude has recently published a book entitled, “Israel: The Land in Controversy”, which is available on Amazon
It was a truly awesome weekend in GVC as Emad and Ash shared with us their own remarkable testimonies, stories of what is happening in Egypt right now, and encouragements from the Word of God.
The Presence of God crammed the worship, which was poignant with prophetic urgency. But it was the (repeated) exhortation by the Spirit of God to pray which perhaps came across above all else.
Emad encouraged us to continue to store up prayer with God. Ash shared his own story, that His godly Christian mother prayed daily for him for nine years when as a young man he was in a rebellious, drug-fuelled state, until He personally encountered Jesus Christ, who immediately turned His life around.
We heard that on 11/11/11 seventy thousand Egyptian Christians gathered together in Cairo to pray; to humble themselves and seek God for their nation’s condition and future. God heard the cries of His saints.
There is clearly a spiritual revival going on in this nation that is beloved by God. Accounts of miracles and healings continue. There is much in the Bible regarding Egypt. And several prophecies yet to be fulfilled. How good to know that our God is on the move outside of what normally appears in the media.
Let’s take this example of persistent prayer to heart, and continue to call on God for our own very needy nation, and the global purposes of God in our day. Jesus still calls for His church to be a “House of Prayer for all the nations”.
