SEVENTY YEARS AND ONE HUNDRED DAYS

I70t is 100 days from the 70th anniversary of the ending of the holocaust in the liberation of Auschwitz (27th January 2015) until the General Election in Britain on 7th May 2015. We believe this hundred days is vital for prayer, as the choice made by the British people this time round will significantly shape the nation’s destiny.

7/8th May also represents the 70th anniversary of V.E. Day –  the triumph of the Allied forces and the end of the second world war in Europe.

Biblically 70 is a significant number, and stands for the completion or fulness of a period of time. I believe that this 100 days is essential for prayer and intercession for this nation. During the seventy year period since the liberation of Auschwitz there has generally been a sympathetic understanding of the horrors suffered by the Jewish people, which has spurred on the the foundation of the State of Israel and retained a basic acknowledgement of Israel’s right to exist peacefully within its borders.

Towards the end of that 70 year period, public opinion in many parts of the world has seen a slide into a more anti-Israel stance, and waves of antisemitism have hit the news headlines. There are some voices in Europe that would have us move the horrors of Nazism towards the Jews into the past, but without a constant awareness of history we are destined to repeat history’s mistakes. The famous quote of the poet and philosopher, George Santayana, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it” remains an ever-present and sobering truth. We are coming out of a ’70’, where the significance of the treatment of the Jewish people has shaped history. What will the next 70 years produce? We are about to come to the close of a ’70’, where this nation has lived in the fruit of victory in WW2. What will be the fruit of the next 70 years?

The question before our nation as we move towards the next election of a Government is, “What stance will that Government take towards Israel and its people?”. God’s Covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, remains true; those who bless Israel will be blessed. This question may not form the significant percentages in the opinion polls on what are the key issues for Government, but it forms the top of the list for God’s opinion poll.

We believe that we have this hundred day season to pray and seek God for this nation’s future. That future is unbreakably tied to the next Government’s position towards Israel and whether it stands to bless or curse the Jewish people. Church, let’s pray for our Government to be.

It’s the twenty-fist anniversary of God outpouring the FIRE of His love in Toronto, Canada! That’s an incredibly joyful and thankful thought, but it’s also a very sobering thought!

John & Carol Arnott

John & Carol Arnott

We are so thankful for this renewal which is still continuing and impacting individual lives and nations. We are so thankful that we are alive for such a time as this.We are so thankful for the way that John and Carol Arnott and the team at Catch the Fire have stewarded this move of God, with faithfulness and integrity. We are so thankful for the impact, healing, blessing, and God-encounters we have received ourselves as a result.

But it is also sobering. Where have those twenty one years gone?! This is a big chunk of life! And how much are we going to allow this revival to impact the rest of our lives?

As we reflect today on all that our God has done, may we be freshly inspired to push into more of Him. May we love and hunger after His Presence more than ever. May we find new depths of personal renewal and healing. May we carry His amazing love wherever we go. May we allow Him to take us into all the changes He wants to, laying aside our fears and resistances. There’s still so much more of Him to be found.

TORONTO BLESSING

As I sit in my room in an unusually deep-freezing January in Toronto, I am thankful; very thankful. It’s the twentieth anniversary of the day the Holy Spirit came and poured Himself out in renewal and revival to a small Vineyard church near Pearson International Airport. Within weeks thousands were flocking to the nightly meetings from all over the world, with airlines putting on extra flights from the UK, just to accommodate all the Brits who wanted to go over.

Toronto BlessingAnd twenty years later, the phenomenon of revival continues, and countless lives globally have been changed for the better, as they have experienced God the Father’s tangible love, received revelation and healing, and entered into deeper intimacy with Jesus.

In Golden Valley Church (then known as New Life Church, Churchdown) we initially experienced this revival in 1994 as a result of Rodney Howard-Browne’s visit to Birmingham, where we hungrily queued to attend the meetings and encountered God’s amazing Presence in a new and intimate way, with much joy and laughter, tears and cries, shouting and shaking, falling and resting. We were never the same again, as Holy Spirit kept on coming. Over the following days and months, Continue reading “TORONTO BLESSING”

THE PRAYER OF JABEZ

by Jean Packer

Golden Valley Church has been impacted powerfully through Sharron’s heartfelt word from God about the Prayer of Jabez a few weeks ago. We have been holding this word up before The Lord ever since. We want it for ourselves. It is our prayer and our desire to Glorify Him in everything we are. God heard Jabez earnest prayer and gave him all he asked for both materially and spiritually. He wants to do the same for us too.

Prayer of Jabez1 Chronicles 4:9-10
“Jabez cried out to the God of Israel,
“Oh, that you would bless me
and enlarge my territory!
Let your hand be with me,
and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.”
And God granted his request.”

We don’t know very much about Jabez except that he was more honourable than his brother’s, and that he was called Jabez because his Mother bore him in sorrow. Yet, his prayer shows us a fascinating record of personal transformation as he broke through into the blessed life. In his prayer he made four requests to God, and as each of his four requests are pondered upon we see the truths that can change our lives completely. Personal change begins when we cry out to God with open hearts and hands. This is where miracles begin as we see new beginnings and breakthroughs open up before us. We think new thoughts and our direction will begin to shift. One of the most amazing teachings of the Bible is that God can lay His hand on us and provide all of the resources and power we need to do His will. He is personally involved in the lives of His children. He wants to use us fully, and He wants us to succeed.

The Lord gave Jabez all of the material blessings of territory, land and possessions that he asked for through his four requests. These came as a result of the promises that Abraham received for his descendants and Jabez heart to serve God totally.
Jabez made four requests:-

1/ That God would bless him.
Spiritual blessings produce real effects. They call for our lives to be centred on God as they bring more responsibilities…. Yet we can do nothing by ourselves, but we can do everything through Him who strengthens us (Phil 4:13)

2/ That he would enlarge his borders.
That God would enlarge our hearts, and so enlarge our portion in himself. We can ask Him to enlarge our wisdom, patience, humility, understanding and love. For good health and physical strength and to deepen our character to give us ability to help others, family, neighbours, church, city, nation and the nations…

3/ That God’s hand would be with him.
The ‘hand of the Lord’ is another way of describing the Presence of the Holy Spirit. We ask God for His Presence in our lives – to increase. to lead us, protect us, strengthen us, and to work all our works in us and for us.

4/ That He would keep him from evil.
Of sin, the evil of trouble, all the evil designs of his enemies, that they might not hurt, nor make him a Jabez indeed – a man of sorrow.Keep us and our loved ones from harm, anxieties, pain and fear…deliver us from evil.

We cry out for God to deliver us from alcohol, drugs, tobacco, overweight, loneliness, problems at home, abuse and struggles. He will do it as we submit our hearts to His will.

God granted everything he asked for as He is personally involved in the lives of His children. He wants to grant all that we ask for too. Let’s seek His heart… together

HEIRS OF A PROMISE

by Jean Packer

Sunday March 6th

What an incredible worship time we had this morning! It was truly very special, particularly today, as we shared in the dedication service for Nathan and Nahid’s children Noah and Sophia. It was such a privilege to be part of this beautiful time in their lives and commit ourselves as the body of believers to uphold and encourage them in their walk with Jesus. It is so special when parents dedicate their children to the Lord and we heard how ‘Hannah’ dedicated her son to God (1 Samuel 1:11). Wes shared from Matthew 18: 1- 5 when the disciples asked “Who is greater in the Kingdom?” and Jesus told them that we should humble ourselves and become as little children. Jesus also went on to tell the parable of the lost sheep Matthew 11-14. God is not willing to let the smallest of his sheep perish. He loves each one so much.

The pastoral team came forward to release blessing and to prophesy over the family that wisdom from heaven would be downloaded into their hearts and that God had plans to prosper and give them hope. Blessing would be within their home and that it would be a resting place. This was a special day for a special family and God would protect them throughout their lives. They are Heirs to a promise and rich in Him! God has presented them to us to pray, think and care for!

We were also very pleased to celebrate with coffee and cake afterwards! It was very good to mingle, chat and catch up with one another during this time and when we came back to our seats

Ian continued the meeting by bringing the word to us from Acts 21:21-37. Through showing us Paul’s interpretation on life we heard again the call to go deeper in God and to follow Him wholeheartedly. God is able to do all things and meet all our needs. God’s choice in Paul is amazing! He was a Pharisee, persecuting Jesus! Yet God chose him. Likewise He has chosen each one of us. If God is for us! Who can be against us? (Romans 8:28-31).

CONTINUING SEASON OF PRAYER FOR GLOUCESTER

This week we begin praying for ‘Zone F’ in our season of prayer for Gloucester. Over the past couple of months we have prayed for the Barnwood and Brockworth communities – for the people and their homes; for the children and the needy; for the schools, businesses and churches.

Some of Golden Valley Church members have walked the community streets praying as they walk, for blessing on the people who live and work in those streets.

We believe that God wants to bless our city and that He is well able to make himself known and to help and assist those who call on Him.

We pray for signs and miracles to flow and for an outpouring of His Holy Spirit on all our lives. We pray that individuals, families, and businesses will prosper because of His love and involvement. We pray for those in authority and local government and honour them for the work they do.

Please join us as we now pray for the ‘Coney Hill’  area of Gloucester (our ‘Zone F’).
