IF YOU ARE THIRSTY

Yesterday was the end of Sukkot, the Feast of Tabernacles. It was “day eight” called, “Shemini Atzeret”. It’s an extra ‘add on day’ to the week of Sukkot, and is connected to the idea of lingering longer; pausing; remaining another day; not rushing away. It’s also the day when traditionally the Jews begin to pray for the rain again.

Numbers 29:35 calls it a ‘solemn assembly’. On this day Solomon sent the people home after their celebrations and their dedicating the new Temple in Jerusalem. That night God appeared to him and gave him the promise that if the rain was lacking or the crops were being destroyed, if God’s people would turn back to Him and repent, seeking His face, then He would open up His blessings again.

On this day also, Jesus Himself cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink” [Jn. 7:37-39]

So we encourage ourselves at this time to embrace the pause. Linger longer in His Presence. Don’t rush away. Come to Him and ask for the rain of His Spirit. Come to Him and drink.

There is one proviso: thirst. Anyone can come and drink – as long as they are thirsty. That’s the prerequisite for receiving what God is wanting to give. He works on desire. The careless receive little because they place little value on what God is offering. Thirst and hunger for God are gifts from Him. We can’t work them up. But we can ask, and He will give them to us.

In this season, let’s get hungry and thirsty for more of Him. Let’s linger in His Presence. Let’s drink from Him and cry out for a fresh outpouring of Holy Spirit rain.

Here’s today’s video encouragement. May God bless you.

TWENTY-FIVE YEARS

It was June 26 1994 when the outpouring of the Holy Spirit broke out upon us in Golden Valley Church (known at that time as New Life Church Churchdown, and just planted three months earlier).

God had lovingly sent Dr Michael Brown to our churches in May 1994 to help prepare us for revival. A work began in our hearts. And there was a fresh level of hunger and desire for Revival every time people met together.

Rodney Howard-Browne
The meetings with Rodney Howard-Browne impacted us forever

Then, not many weeks later, it was followed by Rodney Howard-Browne coming to Birmingham for a week of Revival Meetings in June, hosted by Mike Price and Woodgate Church. We were radically changed in our hearts in those meetings as we encountered the Holy Spirit’s Presence and power in a deeper way. We will never be the same.

And so, immediately after, the Presence of God opened up to us. Holy Spirit moved in fresh outpouring in GVC.  There were wild manifestations and good lasting-to-this-day fruit. That revival, commonly known as the “Toronto Blessing “, shaped and defined who we are and how we see. We met the Father. We fell in love with Jesus. We experienced new levels of worship and prayer. God’s Word came more alive to us, than ever before. He kept showing up. He changed our hearts. And we were privileged to carry His Presence into the nations.

We are so incredibly grateful to God, and honour those who have walked with us in this amazing journey. Mention must be given to the late Bill Bates and his wife Alison, and the late John and Jenny Allan, fellow-pastors in the New Life Churches at the time, for their fellowship and encouragement in pressing into this revival in the beginning.

In January of this year we celebrated Toronto’s 25 years of Revival. Yesterday we celebrated our own 25 years of outpouring, in Golden Valley Church.

Awesome God! All we can say is, “More Lord!” We so love You, and honour You with all our hearts. Let’s ascend the Hill of the Lord in fresh worship and intimacy in these days. And let’s see Him move in fresh outpourings of love and power in the nations.

It’s the twenty-fist anniversary of God outpouring the FIRE of His love in Toronto, Canada! That’s an incredibly joyful and thankful thought, but it’s also a very sobering thought!

John & Carol Arnott

We are so thankful for this renewal which is still continuing and impacting individual lives and nations. We are so thankful that we are alive for such a time as this.We are so thankful for the way that John and Carol Arnott and the team at Catch the Fire have stewarded this move of God, with faithfulness and integrity. We are so thankful for the impact, healing, blessing, and God-encounters we have received ourselves as a result.

But it is also sobering. Where have those twenty one years gone?! This is a big chunk of life! And how much are we going to allow this revival to impact the rest of our lives?

As we reflect today on all that our God has done, may we be freshly inspired to push into more of Him. May we love and hunger after His Presence more than ever. May we find new depths of personal renewal and healing. May we carry His amazing love wherever we go. May we allow Him to take us into all the changes He wants to, laying aside our fears and resistances. There’s still so much more of Him to be found.

CLOSER

Jeremy and Connie Sinnott
Closer Conference in Golden Valley Church

What an exciting weekend it was in Golden Valley Church Gloucester, for our “CLOSER” conference. We were so privileged to have a visit from Jeremy and Connie Sinnott, well-known and well-loved pastors with Catch the Fire Ministries, Toronto.

From the very beginning of worship God drew us in closer to Himself. As the first song said, we began to ‘stir up deeper waters, calling out to You.’ Although it was a cold weekend weather-wise His Fire kept falling on His people. The loving Presence of the Father was preciously close. Several people testified of receiving healing during the event. One visitor claimed to have ‘seen hundreds of angels’ while worship was proceeding. There is something incredibly powerful when earth and heaven combine in worshiping the King of Glory.

Connie shared wise thoughts on how to practice God’s Presence, how to respond to Him more, and how to be sensitive to His heart. Jeremy & Connie SinnottOn Sunday morning Jeremy gave a great talk on God’s Covenant with us His people: how to understand the language of covenant used in the Bible, and how His covenant covers all of our lives.

We are grateful to our friends at St Oswald’s Parish Church, Coney Hill, for the use of their building for the sessions on Friday and Saturday.

TORONTO PASTORS RETURN TO GLOUCESTER

Jeremy and Connie SinnotIt is with great anticipation we are awaiting our forthcoming conference with Jeremy & Connie Sinnott, from Catch the Fire, Toronto.
They are well loved in Golden Valley Church, and we look forward to sharing in worship and fellowship together during the weekend of 5th to 7th December.
Friday and Saturday will comprise a short conference entitled, “CLOSER”. Sessions will take place at the local parish church in Coney Hill, St Oswald’s, due to the larger size of the venue.
We know God’s Presence will be here, and we are sincerely grateful for that.

999 PRAYER CALL

It was a timely and strategic nine days of prayer as members of Golden Valley Church gathered to pray and call on God for ’emergency’ situations around the world.
The 9 days in the 9th month commenced with 9 hours of prayer.
Special prayer focuses were on the UK and for our Government in the face of significant challenges abroad and at home; for the Scottish referendum and the unity of the UK; for Israel’s protection and blessing; for persecuted Christians across the globe; for Middle East crises; for those victims caught up in trafficking and abuse; for our own city, community, church, and lives.
On Thursday 11th September our prayer focused on ‘911’ as we interceded for the USA and its Government.
The Presence of God was strong throughout the time as many individuals were able to pour out their hearts to Him.
We greatly appreciated this awesome opportunity to partner with God through prayer at such an important time in history.

OPEN DOORS IN 2014

Often at the beginning of a New Year we have a clear mandate or direction from God as to the focus or prophetic significance of that year. We knew that 2013 was a ‘year of alignment’ and we have spent many occasions in prayer regarding this. There are some who interpret the current Hebrew year 5774 as meaning “the year of the Open Doors”.  Whilst I don’t feel strongly enough to declare it as THE year of open doors in Golden Valley Church, I do believe that within this next 12 months the Father is wanting to open up new ‘doors’ for us in many areas of life.

doorBiblically, and in within ancient cultures, the concept of doors, gates, and doorways are more significant than we generally regard them in a modern western society. Clearly doors into our homes or businesses are significant as both entry points and security factors. Continue reading “OPEN DOORS IN 2014”

THE PRAYER OF JABEZ

by Jean Packer

Golden Valley Church has been impacted powerfully through Sharron’s heartfelt word from God about the Prayer of Jabez a few weeks ago. We have been holding this word up before The Lord ever since. We want it for ourselves. It is our prayer and our desire to Glorify Him in everything we are. God heard Jabez earnest prayer and gave him all he asked for both materially and spiritually. He wants to do the same for us too.

Prayer of Jabez1 Chronicles 4:9-10
“Jabez cried out to the God of Israel,
“Oh, that you would bless me
and enlarge my territory!
Let your hand be with me,
and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.”
And God granted his request.”

We don’t know very much about Jabez except that he was more honourable than his brother’s, and that he was called Jabez because his Mother bore him in sorrow. Yet, his prayer shows us a fascinating record of personal transformation as he broke through into the blessed life. In his prayer he made four requests to God, and as each of his four requests are pondered upon we see the truths that can change our lives completely. Personal change begins when we cry out to God with open hearts and hands. This is where miracles begin as we see new beginnings and breakthroughs open up before us. We think new thoughts and our direction will begin to shift. One of the most amazing teachings of the Bible is that God can lay His hand on us and provide all of the resources and power we need to do His will. He is personally involved in the lives of His children. He wants to use us fully, and He wants us to succeed.

The Lord gave Jabez all of the material blessings of territory, land and possessions that he asked for through his four requests. These came as a result of the promises that Abraham received for his descendants and Jabez heart to serve God totally.
Jabez made four requests:-

1/ That God would bless him.
Spiritual blessings produce real effects. They call for our lives to be centred on God as they bring more responsibilities…. Yet we can do nothing by ourselves, but we can do everything through Him who strengthens us (Phil 4:13)

2/ That he would enlarge his borders.
That God would enlarge our hearts, and so enlarge our portion in himself. We can ask Him to enlarge our wisdom, patience, humility, understanding and love. For good health and physical strength and to deepen our character to give us ability to help others, family, neighbours, church, city, nation and the nations…

3/ That God’s hand would be with him.
The ‘hand of the Lord’ is another way of describing the Presence of the Holy Spirit. We ask God for His Presence in our lives – to increase. to lead us, protect us, strengthen us, and to work all our works in us and for us.

4/ That He would keep him from evil.
Of sin, the evil of trouble, all the evil designs of his enemies, that they might not hurt, nor make him a Jabez indeed – a man of sorrow.Keep us and our loved ones from harm, anxieties, pain and fear…deliver us from evil.

We cry out for God to deliver us from alcohol, drugs, tobacco, overweight, loneliness, problems at home, abuse and struggles. He will do it as we submit our hearts to His will.

God granted everything he asked for as He is personally involved in the lives of His children. He wants to grant all that we ask for too. Let’s seek His heart… together

“FIREHOUSE” OF PRAYER

by Jean Packer

At ‘The House of Prayer’ meeting this Thursday morning we were overwhelmed by the awesome presence of God. Caught up into heavenly realms as worship and intercession flowed to and from God’s heart and ours. During this time Wes heard doors banging shut to areas of our lives that the enemy has used to hold us back from moving into the fullness of all God has for us. Ian continued this through vision and prophesies. We were exhorted to come before God with the things that had been holding us back. This was in order to shut the doors behind us for good!

As they spoke I saw a massive pile of rubble, stones and filthy rags in the middle of the green area behind Golden Valley Firehouse. This was our rubbish and rubble that the enemy had thrown in our path to hold us back from giving our whole heart to God. These were false beliefs and attitudes, difficult circumstances, health issues, our own efforts of good works and the resulting disappointments. They were all piled up and made into a huge bonfire. It was set on fire and the vast flames burned them all up. I then saw a great Eagle and a little dove rise up out of the fire. I heard God say ‘Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit’.

I then saw people coming towards every corner of the green from the north, south, east and west. They were bringing their filthy rags. These rags were thrown on and were consumed by the  fire.  The people were clothed in new brightly coloured garments and there were tears, rejoicing and everyone embracing each other.  Captives set free!

A Dove is a symbol of the Holy Spirit. He brings us truth, faith and gifts regenerated. He is gentle and full of love. Powerful in acts.  He leads us in the way we should go and equips us to reach out to others through His compassion and power.

Isaiah 40:31 – ‘They that wait upon the Lord shall be renewed in strength, they shall mount up with strong wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint’.  Eagles fly high and are sharp sighted. We will be renewed in strength, run and not grow weary as we seek Him with all our heart.

Let us close the doors behind us and not look back!  Let us run the race that is set before us!

‘Not but by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit’ says The Lord… Zechariah 4:6
