Here, as I sit in my Indian home in the village in the Jalpaiguri jungle area, surrounded by the tea gardens which are nestled in the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains, I feel that I have entered into the joy of God’s promise as an open Heaven is over this place, saturated by the prayer of the saints who live here. They are first generation believers. Early in the morning I am woken by the cockerel crow, then children singing worship and pray heartily to the Lord before they begin their daily chores and study before school.
People struggle to have enough to eat and live. Living conditions are basic and work is very hard. Many people have body pain, especially in their weight bearing bones because they carry such heavy weights and nutrition Is scarce and insufficient. Villages I’ve visited for ministry trips are largely made up of straw houses. Not many people can afford bricks and corrugated roofs. Churches are decorated with delicately cut out paper streamers and flags and the worship is led mainly by drums, but I have seen a few guitars and one keyboard.
God’s work here is huge and people are added daily. We have just held the first conference in the new building. About 400 people attended and everyone was fed for two or three days. 200 people slept here on mattresses with blankets hired and provided. Many were under plastic roofs with straw floors. The glory of God filled the temple and people were touched mightily by God’s powerful presence. There was lots of dancing, singing and laughter as the Indian people love to celebrate. It was almost like the X-factor as various young people came forward to perform. Young pastors encouraged and inspired the people to receive more of God as the Holy Spirit moved amongst us. Powerful preaching brought down the manifest presence of God and there were signs and wonders abounding.
It was a timely and strategic nine days of prayer as members of Golden Valley Church gathered to pray and call on God for ’emergency’ situations around the world. The 9 days in the 9th month commenced with 9 hours of prayer. Special prayer focuses were on the UK and for our Government in the face of significant challenges abroad and at home; for the Scottish referendum and the unity of the UK; for Israel’s protection and blessing; for persecuted Christians across the globe; for Middle East crises; for those victims caught up in trafficking and abuse; for our own city, community, church, and lives. On Thursday 11th September our prayer focused on ‘911’ as we interceded for the USA and its Government. The Presence of God was strong throughout the time as many individuals were able to pour out their hearts to Him. We greatly appreciated this awesome opportunity to partner with God through prayer at such an important time in history.
I don’t think it is without significance that on the morning of the twentieth anniversary of the “Toronto Blessing” I sat in my hotel watching Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper addressing the Israeli Knesset and pledging the ongoing support of his nation to Israel. Two poignant moments occurred together for Canada – honouring revival and honouring Israel. I believe the two are inextricably linked in the heart and mind of God. This weekend Egyptian Church leader Emad Youssef will be visiting Golden Valley Church Gloucester for an event entitled, “Loving Your Neighbour”.
Emad, originally from Egypt, currently resides in the UK. He has a love for the Middle East and North Africa, and has many years of experience in missions. He has worked with Youth With A Mission in Egypt and the UK in discipleship, mentoring, leading and training, and has led several international outreach teams. Emad also lived in Malta for 4 years where he was involved with church planting and establishing an Arabic church.
Emad will be speaking on Saturday evening, and Sunday morning in GVC. There is no charge but offerings will be taken.
It was a great hour of worship and prayer last Friday morning, with the majestic sounding of church bells at exactly 8:12am for three minutes. Along with many thousands across the UK we made a noise! Other church bells could be heard in the distance, and the chimes of Big Ben sounding from a car radio. In 1942 when Churchill called for the church bells to rung across the nation, and for the people to pray, there was a turning of the tide in the war. We believe that was divine intervention. And we believe God can intervene in and for this nation again; maybe not with ‘physical war’, but with the war for hearts and minds, for morals, and the future of the British people.
As a part of our House of Prayer, we engaged in worshipping God and calling on Him for mercy on our nation and a turning of the tide of unrighteousness, and life without Him. We prayed for the Government, the police, education, business, and the church; that in all these areas God will Himself be glorified.
After that we prayed for the Olympics, commencing that evening; for the nations who have come to Britain for the event; for the athletes, and for the crowds attending.
We know that God loves this nation, and its godly heritage is no accident. Let’s keep on calling out to Him for a ‘turning of the tide’ in our land.
It’s almost here! Golden Valley Church School of Prophets commences on Saturday.
Taking place one Saturday per month over the next six months, the school will be an opportunity for students to develop their prophetic giftings, understand the role of prophecy in the Bible and today, catch God’s heart for the nations, and learn to hear God better.
We are so excited to be running this school this Winter season. The school will be led by Wes & Sharron Boxall, with video teaching by Mark Virkler and others.
