Please guys, pray for Israel and for Benjamin Netanyahu! There’s something very urgent in the Spirit right now. If the church is going to partner with God in HIS purposes, then she MUST stand guard over the nation He has chosen and loved.
Netanyahu’s speech to US Congress yesterday was strategic and historic. Right now the nations are being given choices to make with regard to God’s people Israel which will affect both their long-term and short-term future. Prayer right now is essential.
“On your walls, Jerusalem, I have placed sentries; They must never be silent day or night. They must remind the LORD of his promises And never let him forget them. They must give him no rest until he restores Jerusalem And makes it a city the whole world praises”. Isaiah 62:6,7 GNB
It is 100 days from the 70th anniversary of the ending of the holocaust in the liberation of Auschwitz (27th January 2015) until the General Election in Britain on 7th May 2015. We believe this hundred days is vital for prayer, as the choice made by the British people this time round will significantly shape the nation’s destiny.
7/8th May also represents the 70th anniversary of V.E. Day – the triumph of the Allied forces and the end of the second world war in Europe.
Biblically 70 is a significant number, and stands for the completion or fulness of a period of time. I believe that this 100 days is essential for prayer and intercession for this nation. During the seventy year period since the liberation of Auschwitz there has generally been a sympathetic understanding of the horrors suffered by the Jewish people, which has spurred on the the foundation of the State of Israel and retained a basic acknowledgement of Israel’s right to exist peacefully within its borders.
Towards the end of that 70 year period, public opinion in many parts of the world has seen a slide into a more anti-Israel stance, and waves of antisemitism have hit the news headlines. There are some voices in Europe that would have us move the horrors of Nazism towards the Jews into the past, but without a constant awareness of history we are destined to repeat history’s mistakes. The famous quote of the poet and philosopher, George Santayana, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it” remains an ever-present and sobering truth. We are coming out of a ’70’, where the significance of the treatment of the Jewish people has shaped history. What will the next 70 years produce? We are about to come to the close of a ’70’, where this nation has lived in the fruit of victory in WW2. What will be the fruit of the next 70 years?
The question before our nation as we move towards the next election of a Government is, “What stance will that Government take towards Israel and its people?”. God’s Covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, remains true; those who bless Israel will be blessed. This question may not form the significant percentages in the opinion polls on what are the key issues for Government, but it forms the top of the list for God’s opinion poll.
We believe that we have this hundred day season to pray and seek God for this nation’s future. That future is unbreakably tied to the next Government’s position towards Israel and whether it stands to bless or curse the Jewish people. Church, let’s pray for our Government to be.
It was a timely and strategic nine days of prayer as members of Golden Valley Church gathered to pray and call on God for ’emergency’ situations around the world. The 9 days in the 9th month commenced with 9 hours of prayer. Special prayer focuses were on the UK and for our Government in the face of significant challenges abroad and at home; for the Scottish referendum and the unity of the UK; for Israel’s protection and blessing; for persecuted Christians across the globe; for Middle East crises; for those victims caught up in trafficking and abuse; for our own city, community, church, and lives. On Thursday 11th September our prayer focused on ‘911’ as we interceded for the USA and its Government. The Presence of God was strong throughout the time as many individuals were able to pour out their hearts to Him. We greatly appreciated this awesome opportunity to partner with God through prayer at such an important time in history.
It’s been about two years now since we began regular “House of Prayer” sessions in Golden Valley Church. They are awesome times!
People who are hungry for God gather to worship and pray. The sessions are well-attended, and well-loved.
This week Tuesday night’s session focused on prayer for Israel and Palestine. This morning we prayed especially for our own city of Gloucester.
We love being a House of Prayer and a House of Worship. We appreciate this calling from God that is ours. We can only say, “More Lord!”
I don’t think it is without significance that on the morning of the twentieth anniversary of the “Toronto Blessing” I sat in my hotel watching Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper addressing the Israeli Knesset and pledging the ongoing support of his nation to Israel. Two poignant moments occurred together for Canada – honouring revival and honouring Israel. I believe the two are inextricably linked in the heart and mind of God. It was an incredibly timely evening with visiting pastor Claude Ezagouri from Israel in Golden Valley Church this evening. The event was part of a speaking itinerary by the Christian ministry, ‘Prayer for Israel’.
With Israel currently facing further attacks on its borders, it was good to be reminded of the Biblical truth, and the heart of God for this nation and this land.
